the
cave hill cemetery tour
.
Through
special arrangement with the superintendent
of Cave Hill Cemetery, the long standing
rule of
no bicycles allowed will be
waived for one evening only, for VIP volunteers
of the Louisville Bicycle Club. If you were
given a volunteers' coffee mug last year,
you should have received an invitation mailed
out by the
LBC.
This year, only
LBC volunteers are allowed to ride. Only
those special people who have donated at
least 8 hours to the Club in the last year
(2003) have been
invited.
This rule will be strictly enforced at the
gate.
This year’s ride starts at the Cycler's Cafe on Lexington Road @ 6 pm. The procession will then leave the cafe and make its way to
the cemetery’s Ray St. entrance.
Bicyclists
will be allowed to tour all 16 miles of
paved roads, or
they may follow the ride captain for
an
informal tour of some of the highlights
of the historic cemetery. All
riders must be out
of the gates by 8 pm. It is up to you, the
Honored Volunteer, to follow this rule.
This
bike ride will be presented as both a chance
for the LBC volunteers to enjoy
the history of Cave Hill, and to become
a part of its history, by being a bicycling
participant in this very rare riding location - for only the 3rd year in a row.
LBC Volunteers who give 8 hours of their time this year, hopefully, will be invited
back again next year.
Any
comments, questions, concerns, or complaints, may be directed to this year’s ride
captain.

The
2002 ride was dedicated to the memory
of LBC member James Richard (Jim or
Kim) Kimmel, Jr., who passed
away on Kentucky Derby Day 2002 while
on a LBC ride.
